I think someone travels the country with a grease pencil and actually has the job of pricing all the merchandise in thrift stores. All that stuff is priced exactly the same way, and often in a really bad spot.
Either that or there is a special class for thrift store employees where they learn things like "proper price script" and "symbols in pricing."
